Health Canada authorizes β-lactoglobulin ("r-βLG") protein as novel food

Health Canada has authorized the food use of β-lactoglobulin protein ("r-βLG") from yeast strain Komagataella phaffii yRMK-66, after conducting a comprehensive assessment of this protein according to the Guidelines for the Safety Assessment of Novel Foods.

This is the first time Health Canada authorizes an animal-derived protein produced by microbial fermentation as novel food.
