New management provisions of non-edible substances that can be added to foods

The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has published provisions for the management of the list of non-edible substances that can be added to foods.

The following substances shall be included in the list:

  • non-edible substances discovered as such from foodborne disease, food safety risk monitoring, etc.;
  • non-edible substances that are or may be added to food during the food production and operation process;
  • substances with scientific data showing that they may cause harm to human health.

The list of non-edible substances is published on the website of SAMR and is in free consultation to the general public.
