Draft amendment to the Act on Imported Food Safety Management

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has issued a draft amendment of the "Special Act on Imported Food Safety Management" with the scope to strengthen the safety management of imported food.
Key points:
- to introduce import hygiene assessments for animal foods that do not fall under the category of livestock products;
- to provide a basis for conducting inspections and fact-finding investigations on directly purchased overseas foods to support consumers' safe purchase improving some deficiencies in the operation of the current system.
