The Government will facilitate the importation of food

Argentina

Jan 23, 2025

The Ministry of Health has published Decree No. 35/2025, which amends Decree No. 2126/1971, which regulated Law No. 18.284 on the Argentine Food Code. The main purpose of the Decree is to facilitate trade controls and to encourage trade and industry. In the case of imports, foodstuffs certified in high surveillance countries may cross Argentine borders without restrictions and will be automatically incorporated into the Argentine Food Code. Thus, the obligations to register and authorize samples, products, establishments, warehouses, utensils and containers are eliminated.

Annex III of the Decree lists the countries that have certifications issued for the products sold and will therefore be exempted from the traditional requirements: Australia, Canada, Swiss Confederation, United States of America, New Zealand, State of Israel, Japan, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The members of the European Union were also included.

In the next few days, the National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT in Spanish) will publish the complementary provisions and the procedures to carry out the implementation of this new regulation.
