FSSAI instructs companies that sell products such as health supplements and nutraceuticals to comply with the Recommended Diet (RDA) standards

Health supplements and nutraceuticals contain nutrients such as vitamins, amino acids and minerals. Food business operators need to ensure that the quantity of such nutrients in their products are in adherence with the RDA values specified by the FSSAI.

Further, the FSS (Food or Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Foods for Special Dietary Use, Foods for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Foods and Novel Foods) Regulations, 2016 also specify that the quantity of nutrients added to food shall NOT exceed the Recommended Oaily Allowance (ROA), as specified by ICMR, and in case, such standards are not specified, the standards laid down by international food standards body, namely, Codex shall apply.
