Mandatory fortification of salt, wheat and corn flour

The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) published Resolution RDC No. 604, which establishes the mandatory enrichment of salt with iodine and of wheat and corn flour with iron and folic acid intended for human consumption.

Art. 3 Salt must contain, until the expiration date, a content equal to or greater than 15 (fifteen) milligrams of iodine per kilogram of salt, observing the maximum limit of 45 (forty-five) milligrams of iodine per kilogram of salt. .

Art. 6. Wheat and corn flours must contain, up to the expiration date:

I - content equal to or greater than 140 (one hundred and forty) micrograms of folic acid per 100 (one hundred) grams of flour, observing the maximum limit of 220 (two hundred and twenty) micrograms of folic acid per 100 (one hundred) ) grams of flour; and

II - content equal to or higher than 4 (four) milligrams of iron per 100 (one hundred) grams of flour, observing the maximum limit of 9 (nine) milligrams of iron per 100 (one hundred) grams of flour.
