Updated national best practice recommendations on diet, physical activity and sleep

Estonia

Jan 15, 2025

The Estonian National Health Development Institute (TAI in Estonian) has published an updated version of its national recommendations on best practices in diet, physical activity and sleep.

The new document is intended primarily for use by professionals (nutritional counselors and therapists, physicians, family nurses, as well as educational and research workers and policy makers).

The updated dietary recommendations have clarified the recommendations for almost all micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). For the macronutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates), the upper limit for fat intake (i.e., the recommended energy ratio) increased slightly and the lower limit for carbohydrates decreased.

In particular, the IAT recommends that children under two years of age should not be given any food containing added sugar.
