New national nutritional recommendations published

Finland

Nov 29, 2024

The Finnish Food Authority published a set of national nutritional guidelines, advising people to eat less meat, more vegetables and to cut down on the consumption of coffee and alcohol.

Based on the authority's new guidelines, people in Finland should ideally consume around 500-800 grams of vegetables, fruits and berries per day, up from the previous recommendation — issued in 2014 — of about 500 grams each day.

The recommendations aim to reduce the use of red meats, processed meats and also poultry meat. The main objective of the nutritional recommendations is to promote public health.

To support food choices, a new food pyramid and several examples of the plate model, i.e. sets of recommended health-promoting meals, have also been prepared.
