Authorities Announce Food and Nutrition Development Plan for China (2025-2030)

Recently, the “China Food and Nutrition Development Plan (2025-2030)” was officially announced, jointly issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which sets key targets for improving eating habits and the quality of food supply.

The Outline proposes that by 2030 the diversified food supply system will be more complete and the quality, characteristics and brand of food will continue to improve. The structure of food consumption has shifted to a nutritious and healthy type, food and nutrient intake has become more balanced and reasonable, and the nutritional and health situation has further improved.

The guideline calls for a transition to nutrient-rich food consumption by increasing the annual per capita intake of protein- and fiber-rich foods.

By 2030, an annual per capita consumption of 14 kg of legumes, 69 kg of meat, 23 kg of eggs, 47 kg of dairy products, 29 kg of seafood, 270 kg of vegetables and 130 kg of fruit is projected.

The nutritional recommendations outlined in the guideline call for daily caloric intake to be maintained at approximately 2150 kilocalories for men and 1700 kilocalories for women. The initiative emphasizes the importance of protein intake, setting a target that high quality protein should account for more than 50% of total daily intake.
