Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has approved Advanced Protein Technologies Corp.'s application to amend the Food Standards Code, allowing 2′-fucosyllactose (2′-FL) from genetically modified Corynebacterium glutamicum to be used in infant formula. This 2′-FL, branded as ‘Momstamin 2′-FL,’ is identical to the natural substance in human milk and offers anti-pathogenic, immunomodulatory, and gut microbiome benefits. The amendment grants a 15-month exclusive use period. FSANZ's safety assessment found no health concerns. The decision, following public consultation, updates Schedule 26 and adds a new specification in Schedule 3 of the Code, ensuring compliance for use in infant formula.
