CFIA Consultation on the review of the "Safe Food for Canadians Act"

Canada

May 13, 2024

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is consulting on the review of the Safe Food for Canadians Act (SFCA) to assess if improvements or changes are required to the provisions and operations of the Act.

The consultation is part of a broader legislative review of the Act and is not an evaluation of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).

Key topics for discussion are:

  • improving food safety and consumer protection oversight across all food commodities;
  • having effective, streamlined and strengthened legislative authorities across food commodities;
  • enhancing market access opportunities for the Canadian food industry.

The consultation document includes a series of key questions to solicit stakeholder feedback.
