Established EU reference laboratory for food improvement agents

With Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/1004 of 22 January 2024, the Commission has supplemented Regulation (EU) 2017/625 of the European Parliament and the Council by establishing the European Union reference laboratory for food improvement agents.
Food improvement agents (FIA) refers to food additives, food enzymes and food flavourings,
The newly established laboratory will perform official controls and ensure harmonization regarding sampling criteria and analytical methods used for the collection of data on food additives and food flavourings. It will also provide support to official laboratories in the area of food enzymes.
