Consumption Tax on Ultra-Processed Foods and Sugar Beverages Confirmed

The Colombian Constitutional Court has approved article 54 of the 2022 Tax Reform, confirming the "health tax" on the consumption of ultra-processed foods and sugary drinks.
The purpose of the newly introduced tax is to discourage the consumption of drinks with high content of sugar and ultra-processed foods, considered unhealthy due to their role in the increased rate of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in the Colombian population.
