China

Aug 30, 2023

The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has published the "Implementation Rules for New Functions and Product Technology Evaluation of Health Food (Trial)" to promote the research and development of new functions and technilogy evaluation of health foods to better meet the health needs of the people.

As an essential effort to reform China's management of health food function claims, the Rules cover in detail six aspects, including "General Provisions", "New Function Research", "Material Acceptance", "Technical Evaluation", "Post-Market Evaluation", and "Supplementary Provisions". In addition, the Rules attach "Material Requirements and Technical Evaluation Points for New Function Applications" to further guide the industry in applying for new functions.

The "Implementation Rules" are considered an important measure to systematically reform China's old management model of health food function claim evaluation.
