Rules for importing organic food published

UK

Apr 27, 2023

The British Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) issued the rules for imported organic food.

The main contents are as follows:

  • The consignee must be located in the UK and be approved to engage in organic food business. And must be accompanied by a certificate of inspection (COI) to import organic food, even if the imported product or sample is not intended for sale.
  • Importing organic food to the UK from outside the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland: GB COI is required for each batch of "goods", and the exporter and exporting country or region are already on the non-UK organic register.
