ANVISA decides to ban trans fat in food from 2023

ANVISA (National Health Surveillance Agency) approved on Tuesday, 17, new rules aimed at banning the use of trans industrial fats in food from 2023.

The proposal foresees the implementation of the standard in three phases. The first one starts in 18 months and will limit to 2% the amount of this type of fat in the production of refined oils.

In the second phase, the same limit percentage will be imposed on other processed and commercialized foods in retail and wholesale. This restriction will apply from July 1, 2021 to January 1, 2023.
