Peru proposes regulation on biodegradable plastics

On May 23, 2024, the Peruvian Ministry of Production released a draft Supreme Decree (Ministerial Resolution No. 215-2024) for public comment, aiming at approving the Technical Regulation on biodegradable plastic tableware and utensils.
The regulation sets technical and labelling standards for the manufacture, import, distribution, and marketing of biodegradable tableware for food and beverages, aligning with Law No. 30884, which governs single-use plastics and disposable packaging. The draft is part of broader efforts to promote sustainable practices in food and beverage consumption.
