Argentina adopts Mercosur Regulation on food contact materials

The Secretariat of Sanitary Quality and the Secretariat of Bioeconomy have published Joint Resolution 4/2024, which amends Article 195 of the Food Code to incorporate the Mercosur Technical Regulation on provisions for metallic packaging, coatings, utensils, lids and equipment in contact with food. This Technical Regulation applies to containers, coatings, utensils, lids and equipment made of metallic materials, coated or not, that come into contact with food and its raw materials during their production, processing, transport, distribution and storage. The provisions of this Resolution do not apply to printing inks, varnishes, enamels and enamels used on the external side, provided they do not come into direct contact with food, or the user's mouth in the way they are normally used.
