Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) is considering adding cashews to the list of foods for which allergen labeling is required, in light of rising cases of allergic reactions.
In addition, cashews have emerged as the fifth most common cause of severe allergic shocks, with 37 cases of anaphylaxis last year, according to the survey.
The food labeling law lists eight foods, including eggs and milk, as specific allergens for which labeling is mandatory. Walnuts were added to the list last year.
