Japan proposes amendment to Health Promotion Act related to labeling of special-purpose foods

The Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) has pubished Partial Revision to the Cabinet Office Ordinance on the Permission, etc. for Special Use Labelling provided for in the Health Promotion Act.
In order to maintain and promote the health of the people, the following amendments shall be made:
- The labeling items currently stipulated in the public notice concerning food for special purposes (excluding food for specified health uses) shall be stipulated in a Cabinet Office Ordinance.
- Add a matter requiring applicants for the labeling of food for special purposes to submit data on measures to be taken to inform consumers of the contents of the labeling, when the Commissioner of the Consumer Affairs Agency deems it particularly necessary.
