ASA rules on false arthritis treatment claim
UK

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld complaints against Nutritional Sciences Ltd regarding misleading advertisements for their product, Activ8 Joint Complete.
The complaints concerned advertisements displayed on a news website and newnutritionsecrets.com, claimed that Activ8 Joint Complete could treat arthritis and other joint conditions. They also misleadingly described Dr. Paul O’Connell as “the NHS’s leading joint expert.”
Nutritional Sciences Ltd did not respond to the ASA’s enquiries, breaching the CAP Code for unreasonable delay. The ASA concluded that the ads implied the product could cure human diseases, which is prohibited. They also noted the unauthorized health claims and lack of evidence substantiating Dr. O’Connell’s credentials. The ASA has banned the ads in their current form and instructed Nutritional Sciences Ltd to ensure future compliance with advertising codes.
