New safety certificates approved for genetically modified agricultural organisms

The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has published the list of approved safety certificates for genetically modified agricultural organisms 2024. The list includes:
- production and application safety certificates of 9 items (3 items of genetically modified plants, 6 items of genetically modified microorganisms for animals);
- renewal of 55 production and application safety certificates (4 genetically modified microorganisms for animals and 51 insect-resistant cotton plants).
It should be noted that the approval for the first time of a type of genetically modified wheat is included in the list.
The approval of genetically modified and disease-resistant wheat is considered a milestone, as it is the ingredient used to make pasta, noodles, and bread, predominantly grown in China for food consumption.
