New requirements for state registration of GMOs approved

The Cabinet of Ministers adopted Resolution No. 584 on “Some Issues of State Registration of Genetically Modified Organisms”, which introduces an updated system of registration and control of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Ukraine.
The document approved a number of new procedures, in particular:
- Procedure for state registration (re-registration) of genetically modified organisms.
- Procedure for suspension of state registration of genetically modified organisms.
- Procedure for consideration of objections to an application for state registration of GMOs;
- Application forms and declarations for state registration;
- Requirements for application for state registration of GMOs.
According to the resolution, the State Register of Genetically Modified Organisms of Agricultural Plant Varieties in an open system ceases to operate, and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine is designated as the new owner of the register information.
The resolution comes into force simultaneously with the Law of Ukraine No. 3339-IX of August 23, 2023 “On State Regulation of Genetic Engineering Activities and State Control of Marketing of Genetically Modified Organisms and Products”.
