FDA endorses Qualified Health Claim for Yogurt and Reduced Risk of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

The Food and Drug Administration announced a decision after nearly 5 years of evaluation related to health claims and consumption of yogurt. FDA concludes that the current scientific evidence is appropriate for consideration of qualified health claims for consumption of yogurt and reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, provided that the qualified health claims are appropriately worded to avoid misleading consumers.
To ensure that these claims are not misleading, they must be accompanied by a disclaimer or other qualifying language to accurately communicate to consumers the level of scientific evidence supporting the claim.
