Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has assessed the application “A1282 – Subtilisin from GM Bacillus subtillis as a processing aid”. The application seeks to amend the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to permit the use of a protein engineered variant of subtilisin from genetically modified Bacillus subtillis as a processing aid to hydrolyse proteins in foods.
Following the assessment, FSANZ has prepared a draft food regulatory measure to modify Schedule 18 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code and now calls for submissions to assist consideration of the draft food regulatory measure.
