Ministry of Health issues health alert on red dye No 3

The Ministry of Health (MIINSA in Spanish) launched an alert to ask to avoid the consumption of food and beverages containing the red dye n°3, which “due to its serious health consequences”, according to the announcement of the ban by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The Ministry of Health explained that the synthetic red dye No. 3, also known as erythrosine or FD&C Red No. 3, has been commonly used in foods, beverages and medicines to provide a bright red color to products such as candies, cakes, cookies, frozen desserts, icings and some medicines.
The FDA has established that companies will have until January 15, 2027 to eliminate the use of this colorant in their products and comply with the new regulations.
